Backcountry Magazine and Tele Mike are committed to educating the NBS community on how to safely travel through untracked terrain.Each day the NBS Basecamp will be filled with instruction, skill development and on-snow experience. Most events are $Free.99 for registered NBS members and $20 for non-registered participants.Tele Mike and Basecamp have teamed up with several top Backcountry &amp; Uphill brands including: 22Designs, Bishop, SCARPA, Osprey, Maeve40Fitness, Mountain Hardware, Full Circle Expeditions, Colorado Avalanche Information Center, US Forest Service, Atomic, Scott, Weston Snowboards, and more; many who will provide free backcountry equipment demos and teach the Backcountry &amp; Uphill Skiing Clinics. <h2>NBS Backcountry &amp; Uphill Ski Basecamp Free Product Demo</h2>Tele Mike and Backcountry Magazine's Basecamp have teamed up with several top Backcountry &amp; Uphill Ski brands who will provide free backcountry gear (skis, boots, skins, bindings, backpacks, etc) for you to demo and take out to try including: Scott, Atomic, 22Designs, Bishop, SCARPA, Osprey, and more! Take gear out for a few lift access runs, or give uphill skiing a try on the short designated uphill lane that will be setup right next to the Basecamp Tents. Location: Base Camp Tent at the bottom of Golden Peak Race ArenaSchedule: Monday - Thursday, February 06-09, 2023 8:30AM - 4:00AM MST

<h2>Newly Added: Introduction to Uphill Splitboarding!!</h2><a href="https://www.instagram.com/backcountrybryce/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Bryce Barnes</a> (Alaskan Brutha, SCARPA Athlete, G3 Athlete, and American Mountain Guide Associate Candidate), <a href="http://teagueholmes.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"></a><a href="https://www.instagram.com/backcountrybryce/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"></a>will teach, demonstrate, and you will participate in how to get started in Uphill Splitboarding. This is an espeically great clinic if you have never splitboarded and you want to participate in the Uphill Race which is on the same day! This clinic is sponsored by Weston Snowboards and The SoulBoarders NBS Club.Participants will learn: (1) What is Uphill Splitboarding (2) What equipment and clothing are needed. (3) How to get started in Uphill Splitboarding (4) How to transition from snowboard mode to splitboard mode and back (5) Actually go uphill, transition, and snowboard downhill all inbounds inside of the resort.Location: Base Camp Tent at the bottom of Golden Peak Race ArenaSchedule: Wednesday, February 08, 2023 10:00AM - 11:30AM MSTWhat To Bring: If you want to try uphill splitboarding (skinning)then come prepared to hike a very short distance, less than 300 vertical feet. All uphill Splitboard equipment will be provided by Weston Snowboards. Note: We will have a maximum of 10 participants at the 10:00 AM clinic. If the 10:00 AM clinic fills up then we will add another Splitboard Clinic at 1:30PM on the same day.

<h2>Avalanche Awareness Clinic</h2><a href="https://www.fullcircle-expeditions.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Full Circle </a>Everest expedition leader and professional outdoor educator (NOLS) <a href="https://www.fullcircleeverest.com/phil-henderson" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Phil Henderson</a> along with Dylan from the Colorado Avalanche Information Center will be teaching an Avalanche Awareness course. Day 1 is a $Free.99 course and will include a short 1.5 hour classroom discussion to drop us that knowledge on how to stay safe in and around steep slopes and avalanche terrain. Phil Henerson will also talk about his expedition to Everest and how he led the first all-African American team up Everest. Everyone is encouraged to participate. Participants will learn: <ul><li>The why, when and where avalanches happen so you can stay safe while riding</li><li>How to follow the AIARE Framework (American Institute for Avalanche Research &amp; Education) to successfully navigate and ski/ride the backcountry</li><li>How to identify avalanche terrain</li><li>Details of the Full Circle African American Expedition on Everest</li></ul>Location: Classroom location at Vail Snowsports MuseumSchedule: Monday, February 06, 2023 10:30AM - 12:00PM MSTWhat To Bring: Nothing is needed for the classroom session. <h2>NBS Women Present: The Female Uphill Athlete Experience</h2>The Womxn of the NBS are descending upon Vail Mountain for a Day of Uphill education, training, camaraderie and spa time.E﻿xplore Uphill access with triple threat, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/maeve40fitness/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Mackenzie "MK" Phillips</a>, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/tammyvupham/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Tammy "Tam" VuPham</a>, and <a href="https://www.instagram.com/teleskishane/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Shane "Tele Shane" Coverdale </a>for a confidence-inspiring date of education, training and Black girl magic time exploring the skills needed to pursue uphill and backcountry adventures.T﻿he purpose of "The Female Uphill Athlete Experience" is to support Black womxn and other womxn of color in preparing their minds and bodies to navigate a non-traditional NBS Summit Experience.E﻿ach participant will have access to all of the nature-infused treatments and recovery amenities available at The Dryland Spa facilities at Gravity Haus Vail including, steam room, sauna, salt room, cold plunge, compression boots, massage guns, etc. for the entire day.How to Register: You MUST go to the <a href="https://www.eventbrite.com/e/nbs-women-present-the-female-uphill-athlete-experience-tickets-483889154487?aff=ebdshpsearchautocomplete" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Female Uphill Athlete Experience Eventbrite</a> to register for this event.

<h2>Uphill Challenge </h2>You will be provided with the experience to participate in the Uphill Ski Racing which is part of the NBS Club Ski Races. Base Camp, SCARPA, 22Designs, Bishop, and other vendors will provide free demo skis, bindings, boots, and skins to participate in this event. If you can walk 1/2 a mile then this fun challenge is for you! The Uphill Challenge will be timed. Top individual finishers will receive outwear gear from Mountain Hardware. In addition, race points will be awarded to your Ski Club for your participation. Skiers x Snowboarders: Both Skiers and Snowboarders can participate. We will have both AT Skies and Splitboard Snowboards available to participate this year!!Participants will learn how to:1. Get in and out of Splitboard, AT Ski, or Telemark Backcountry boots, skis, and skins.2. Apply and remove climbing skins for walking uphill.3. Walk (skin) uphill.4. Transition from climbing skin mode to ski mode and back.Schedule: Wednesday, February 08, 2023, Come anytime between 8:30AM - 3:00PM MSTLocation: Base Camp Tent at the bottom of Golden Peak Race ArenaWhat to Bring: A small bottle of water and backpack. Otherwise, you will ski or walk to the Base Camp Tent at the bottom of Golden Peak Race Arena. There you will be provided with all of the Uphill ski equipment as well as instructions and plenty of assistance on how to ski up the hill, transition, and ski down the hill. The beginner race will be the approximate distance of the beginner NASTAR race course, while the advanced race will be the distance of an advanced NASTAR race course.

<h2>Telemark Ski Clinic by 22Designs &amp; Bishop</h2>Have you ever wanted to try Telemark Skiing? <a href="https://www.instagram.com/tele.mike/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Tele Mike</a> &amp; <a href="https://www.instagram.com/teleskishane/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Tele Shane</a> will be teaching a Telemark Ski Clinic. Free demo telemark boots, bindings, and skis will be provided. “Free the heel! Free the mind!” Participants will learn the following:1. How to get in and out of Telemark gear.2. How to make Tele-pine turns3. How to make Telemark turnsLocation: 22 Designs, Bishop, Freeheel Life Tent at the bottom of Golden Peak Race ArenaSchedule: Monday, February 06, 2023 1:00PM - 4:00PM MSTWednesday, February 08, 2023 1:00PM - 4:00PM MSTWhat To Bring: Come dressed and ready to ski along with your lift ticket and Ski Poles. Demo Telemark Boots, Bindings, and Skis will be provided for free.

<h2>Telemark Ski Races by 22Designs &amp; Bishop</h2>Everyone knows that the best snow sliders on the mountain are the Telemark Skiers! Because if Telemark Skiing was that easy, it would be called Snowboarding, LOL! Just kidding snowboarders! Telemarkers got jokes! So let&#x27;s show everyone that the Telemark Skiers can ski just as fast as the Alpine Skiers and Snowboarders, except we ski on our toes because we are built different! Top finishers will receive prizes and add race points to their NBS Club.
